If Condition

Syntax:

if (CONDITION) {

STATEMENT 1

}

else if (ALTERNATE CONDITION) {

STATEMENT 2

}

else {

STATEMENT 3

}

The if condition will check the given condition and if it is true, it will execute the statements within the first set of braces(from '{' to the next '}'). If the condition is not true, it will check the next condition and so on. If no given condition is true, the 'else' statements are executed.

The 'else if' and 'else' conditions are optional - you don't have to type it if you don't have any need for it. Now for an example...

//Change this word to know the meaning.
var word = "ALIEN"

if (word == "ALIEN") {
alert("The meaning of "+word+" is 'What Mom would suspect had invaded her house if she spotted a child-sized creature cleaning up after itself.'")
}
else if (word == "BABY") {
alert("The meaning of "+word+" is '1. Dad, when he gets a cold. 2. Mom's youngest child, even if he's 42.'")
}
else if (word == "CARPET") {
alert("The meaning of "+word+" is 'Expensive floor covering used to catch spills and clean mud off shoes.'")
}
else if (word == "CHINA") {
alert("The meaning of "+word+" is 'Legendary nation reportedly populated by children who love leftover vegetables.'")
}
else if (word == "COOK") {
alert("The meaning of "+word+" is '1. Act of preparing food for consumption. 2. Mom's other name.'")
}
else if (word == "DATE") {
alert("The meaning of "+word+" is 'Infrequent outings with Dad where Mom can enjoy worrying about the kids in a different setting.'")

else if (word == "DUST RAGS") {
alert("The meaning of "+word+" is 'See \"DAD'S UNDERWEAR.\"'")

alert("The meaning of "+word+" is 'A place where kids store dirt.'")
}
else if (word == "EXCUSE ME") {
